1. WHAT IS THE KITE DEMONSTRATOR?

The "kite demonstrator" KD-01 is an experimental construction aimed at studying the effect of different values of the 3d-shaping on a profile. In particular, it is considered a recommendes experiment before starting the construction of the new paraglider gnuA5. The geometry of the KD-01 corresponds to the central part of the gnuA5 applying a linear factor of scale of 0.8, but completely rectangular in order to facilitate the construction.

The goal is to build a minimum of 3 cells (even without lines) and a maximum of 7 cells ("kite"), expose to the relative wind and see the shapes of the nose. The project defines 4 differents cells:
Cell 1) Two cuts upper surface with a 100% curvature of 3D-shaping
Cell 2)  No cuts
Cell 3)
Two cuts upper surface with a 200% curvature of 3D-shaping, in order to observe excessive deformation
Cell 4) Two cuts upper surface with a  0% curvature of 3D-shaping

These variations affect only the upper surface, the lower surface of all the cells is exactly the same. All the ribs are the same.

Of course, this construction can also be interpreted as a "kite" or a "toy", or a training construction for other projects. There is no guarantee about the aerodynamic quality of the final set, given that the only goal is to study in a practical way the 3D-shaping effects. A single skin version KD-01sk is in preparation.

LAB NOTE: Build a paraglider at home is a very complicated task (even simple skin), and requires many hours of work. Previous experience is required, and very inventive. As always remember that: The free flight implies risks that can only be known and they can be controled with a suitable formation on the part of a recognized school. Not test wings without knowing their functioning. The construction and test of experimental wings without certifying requires deep knowledge of what is being made.
