Chooca 15

1. DESCRIPTION

Monosurface prototype "Chooca 15" by Frédéric Galy (Hautes Pyrénées, France). Designed by Frédéric Galy at the foot (and summit!) of the Pic du Midi de Bigorre, using the LEparagliding software on a Raspberry Pi400 micro-computer. Here is the first description (March 2025) in the designer's own words:

"For this prototype I used MIRAI fabric of 40gr/m2, the complete wing ready to fly weighs 1.7kgs!
I think if I use skytex 27 I can reach the 1kg limit!
The leading edge battens are made of nytinol with resin tips and are housed between the panel seams (without pockets).
The reinforcements for the suspension line attachment points are in self-adhesive skytex 32.
The brake anchor points are made of 1.6 mm dyneema braid, slipped and sewn between the panel seams;
All the rigging as well as the risers are in dyneema.
I am very satisfied with the overall behavior during inflation and ground handling, this week I will proceed with the test flights.
If everything suits me, I will validate the design and calculations of this model, then I will make the same in 12m2."

"I will put together a report and share it when I have finished the tests and control flights."

3. DATA FILES AND PLANS

June 2025. Once the tests and control flights were finished, Frédéric Galy generously shares
the DXF folder with the corrected DXF plans, and the .txt files of the input and output data from the Laboratori software.

This monosurface wing has a classic general concept, but the parameters were very judiciously chosen by the designer,
and it undoubtedly represents a step forward in terms of performance.

Designer's note (August 2026):
"Latest air inlet of the inflatable cell, clarification of the positioning of the A's and risers!
There are a huge number of manual CAD modifications after the DXF export by LEP to obtain the functional Chooca as I wanted it..."

LAB NOTE: Creating a paraglider at home is a very complicated task, and requires many hours of work. Prior experience is required, very inventive, and imagination. As always, remember that: Free flight involves risks that cannot be known, and that they can be controlled, only with proper training from a recognized school. Do not test wings without knowing their behavior. The construction and testing of experimental wings without certification requires a thorough knowledge of what is being done.
