CFD PARAGLIDER WING STUDY. A FIRST RUN.

Using the new .stl files generated by LEparagliding version 3.19+ it is possible to create a model for study with computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software.
Here some screenshots and comments. The paraglider used in this study is a LEP-test-3.19 model, which is basically a gnuA6 model.
A first CFD run, by Francois De Villiers (Cape Town, South Africa).

1. The solid model.
The CFD program can only work with solids. When converting the STL to solid the file become so huge that it takes a lot of memory and pre and post processor commands takes a long time.

2. Speed 50 m/sec , Re=1e6
Low count elements, too small domain yet. Getting forces from thousands of surfaces is a problem.
First run just to get reynolds nr realistic. The file you sent me was a cord of 300 mm. To get a reynolds nr 1e6 i had to increase the velocity.

3. Cross flow at 8 degrees AoA due to tip vortices
01
4. Vorticity 1 chord length behind tip
01
5. The flow on top of the wing cross from one cell to another cell.
Looks like about 30 degrees.
01
6. But more aligned at the bottom. Only at the tip you can see flow goes more towards the tip on the last cell. We can zoom more into this area with the new model

7. Flow around the tip
01
8. Flow around the tip

9. Flow around the tip

10. Flow around the tip

11. But it will look a bit different with lower velocity
